Welcome to the Jackson Heights Beautification Group
The Jackson Heights Beautification Group (JHBG) is a grassroots not-for-profit civic, environmental, and arts organization serving the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens, New York City. Founded in 1988 by Mike Crowley, JHBG was born out of a determination to protect the historic garden-apartment district from the threats of vandalism and overdevelopment.
What started as a small group of concerned neighbors has grown into a vibrant community organization with programs spanning gardening and beautification, the arts, environmental sustainability, and civic engagement. Our volunteers maintain 19 garden spots throughout the neighborhood, gathering every Saturday from April through November to plant, weed, and care for the green spaces that make Jackson Heights special.
JHBG also publishes “Views from the Heights,” our community newsletter that has been keeping neighbors informed and connected since 1995. Through all of our programs, we work to ensure that Jackson Heights remains one of the most beautiful and livable neighborhoods in New York City.
