Saturday, Dec. 15 – Orchestra at 4PM at PS 69

The season opener of the Jackson Heights Orchestra is December 15th at PS69Q at 4:00 PM in the auditorium. The JHO will be led by artistic director and founder Patricia Glunt in works by Henry Purcell, Gabriel Faure, Lev ‘Ljova’ Zhurbin, and Ilan Rechtman. The concert is free and open to the public. There is a suggested donation of $10 and $5 for seniors and students.

This concert will include the world premiere by “Ljova’, “For the Sparrows”, which will include a children’s chorus from PS149, a recorder class from PS69, The Quintet of the Americas and the JHO orchestra.

‘Ljova’ is a Russian born composer and violist who immigrated to the US in 1990. He has written more than 70 original compositions for classical, jazz, and folk ensembles and contributed many scores to documentaries, features, shorts, and animated films. The Quintet of the Americas was founded in Bogata in 1976 and has been based in NYC since 1979. It has commissioned over 70 works, performed over three hundred concerts in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, Eastern Europe and most recently in Cuba. The JHO is an adult community orchestra that focuses on showcasing local talent and exploring the musical diversity of the Jackson Heights community. It was founded in 2012 and has continued to grow in scope and repertoire. The JHO offers a variety of different genres that meet the needs of the concert goer. In six years, JHO has performed before enthusiastic audiences in Jackson Heights, Astoria, Bayside, and Long Island. It has presented over thirty concerts, commissioned eight new works and has added to the cultural diversity in the Jackson Heights community. The JHO operates under the banner of the Jackson Heights Beautification Group.
