JHBG is celebrating the return of spring with several gardening events this month. In addition to our planting and Tree Care activities, there are many community events that may be of interest to our neighbors. For more information, see below, check our Facebook page, and send an email to volunteer@jhbg.org. Saturday, May 2 – Jackson Heights Orchestra Concert at Queensboro Community College.Tickets are $10 and $8 for seniors and students. 7:00 pm

Thursday, May 7 – Town Hall meeting with 115th Precinct at Jackson Heights Jewish Center. 7:00 pm

Saturday, May 9 – P.S. 280 and P.S. 149 Gardening. 10 AM – 1 PM

Saturday, May 9 – Presentation and Comments on city DOT’s Diversity Plaza plan. Sponsored by Friends of Diversity Plaza (which includes JHBG). To be held at Diversity Plaza, 37th Road, between 73rd and 74th Streets. 2 PM

Saturday, May 9 – Stop and Swap – Empty your house of clean and functional clothes, games, electronics and former treasure you no longer need or want. Take away items you need (even if you don’t drop anything off.) PS 69, 37th Avenue, between 77th and 78th Streets. Noon – 3 PM

Wednesday, May 13 – Jackson Heights Orchestra Concert at Community United JHO May 13Methodist Church. 7:30 pm.The concert is free but there is a suggested donation of $10 for the general public, and $5 for students and seniors. More information here

Thursday, May 14 – MOVE NY’s Restore Transit Plan – Funding for transit has not kept pace with growing ridership on city subways, threatening a return to the bad old days. Delays are increasing. Co-sponsors include JHBG, New Visions Democratic Club Make Queens Safer, and JH Green Alliance. Jewish Center of Jackson Heights, 37-06 37th Ave. (on 77th St.) 8 pm

Saturday, May 16 – Jackson Heights Orchestra Concert at St. Mark’s Church. 3:00 pm. It is a fundraiser for the orchestra and will feature small ensembles and soloists of a variety of genres. Tickets are $20 at the door. 33-50 82nd Street, 3:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 16 – It’s My Park Day at Travers Park. JHBG sponsors a special cleaning and gardening day at Travers Park w Partnership for Parks and the NYC Parks Department. 34th Avenue between 77th and 78th Streets. 9:30 AM – 1PM 

Sunday May 17 – Jackson Heights E-Recycle. 37th Avenue between 77th and 78th Streets. 10:00am – 04:00pm

Thursday, May 21 – Community Board’s review of Diversity Plaza Plan – Louis Armstrong School. Junction Boulevard. 7:30 PM

Saturday, May 25 – Manuel Triangle, 34th Ave. and Broadway Gardening. 10 AM – 1 PM

Saturday, May 30 – Junction Blvd. and 34th Ave Gardening. 10 AM – 1 PM
