Bring your food scraps & compost them at JH Scraps on Saturdays 11 AM – 1 PM, all year round

Take a walk over to visit your local community composting center  and see how Jackson Heights is working with sustainability in our community.

Location: 69th St. & 35th Ave under the BQE
Hours: Saturdays 11 AM – 1 PM, all year round

We welcome students looking for community service opportunities.

Bring your organic materials to us to turn in soil – compost – for our local street trees. We collect your food scraps like coffee grinds, fruit and vegetable peels, also yard waste – leaves & grass cuttings. We are a local group of master composters who are committed to keeping Jackson Heights green and clean. We transform your scraps into rich, healthy soil for our street trees and green areas in Jackson Heights. This process helps save on garbage collection, tree maintenance, flooding and clean air.

See this tip sheet for more information on what to save!

we hope to see you this Saturday and every Saturday onwards. Be sure to tell your friends and if they have any questions, we will be more than happy to try to help them see how easy it is to keep the compost for a week and explain ways to keep it from stinking up the joint. As we get more activity, we will definitely be looking for volunteers to help us transport the compost and maintain the piles. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at scraps4jh@gmail.com and one of our master composters will get back to you as soon as possible.
