On Saturday, May 19, beneath a blue Springtime sky, volunteers gathered at Travers Park. The occasion was the annual, “It’s My Park Day,” sponsored by Partnerships for Parks and hosted by the Friends of Travers Park.
The timing was perfect for what is sure to be a very busy season. Travers Park is home to Summer Sundays in the Park, the Play Street, the Green Market and of course the simultaneous playing of soft ball, basketball, handball, soccer and tennis!
The playground areas received a sprucing up. Benches were painted, flowers were planted and mulch was spread. The event attracted many volunteers including some of our youngest residents as children happily assisted with the planting, painting and watering.
With a successful launch to the Spring and Summer park season, the Friends of Travers Park are looking forward to continuing this work throughout the warmer months. Future events will be posted on the Jackson Heights Beautification Group website.
